US Open Women’s Title Winner Sabalenka: Great win over Jessica in the final
Arina Sabalenka of Belarus won the US Open Women’s Singles title, the last Grand Slam tournament of the season. Sabalenka defeated Jessica Pegula (USA) 7-5, 7-5 in the women’s singles final at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York on September 8, 2024. This is the third Grand Slam title for second seed Sabalenka. This is the first time he has won the US Open. Sabalenka, who was defeated by the American girl Coco Goff in the final last year, this time defeated her opponent in consecutive sets. Sabalinka played aggressively from the first set in the title fight that lasted for almost two hours. With this win, Sabalenka became the first player since 2016 to win two titles (Australian Open, US Open) on hard court in the same year. Earlier in 2016, German player Kerber achieved this feat. The prize money for Sabalenka is 3,600,000 US dollars. That is about Rs.30.23 crores in Indian currency
Ran Dhir as OCA President
Randhir Singh has been selected as the President of the Olympic Council of Asia. Randhir was unanimously elected President at the 44th OCA General Assembly held on 8 September 2024. Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, who has held various posts in the Indian Olympic Association, OCA, announced him as the president in the presence of sports leaders from 45 countries in Asia. Ran Dheere was the first Indian to hold this position. Former shooter Randhir, who participated in 5 Olympics, will continue in this post till 2028. Ran Dhir will serve as interim president of OCA from 2021, succeeding Sheikh Ahmed Al Fahad Al Sabah (Kuwait). Sheikh Ahmed was banned for 15 years in May 2024 for breach of moral values.
Hyderabad ranks 25th in clean air survey
In the Clean Air Survey-2024 conducted by the Central Pollution Control Board, Hyderabad ranked 25th among cities with a population of more than 10 lakhs. The rankings are calculated based on the improvement of particulate matter in the air compared to the past. In this
- Hyderabad ranked 25th with 163.3 marks out of 47 cities with a population of more than 10 lakh across the country.
- In the list of cities with a population of less than 3 lakh, Nalgonda stands second with 187.5 marks. In the same category, Sangareddy got 8th position with 182.4 marks.
- A survey was conducted in 130 cities across the country and 3 cities from Telangana got a place.
- Central Pollution Control Board has released these ranks based on the data collected from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024.
Surat (Gujarat), Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) and Agra (Uttar Pradesh) occupy the top three places in the country with a population of more than 10 lakhs. Kalologi Award for Nalimela
Renowned litterateur, polyglot poet, poet, writer, translator Nalimela Bhaskar… has been selected for the Kaloji Narayana Rao Literature Award. 9th rank for Vijayawada in Clean Air Survey : Visakhapatnam ranked 26th in Clean Air Survey- 2024
Vijayawada ranked 9th and Visakhapatnam ranked 26th among cities with a population of more than 10 lakh in the clean air survey conducted by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in 2024. These ranks were announced by calculating the performance of cities based on biomass, municipal solid waste, dust on roads, dust from construction and demolition sites, emissions from vehicles and industries, public awareness and the number of particulate matter in the air compared to the past. Among the 47 cities with a population of more than ten lakh across the country, Vijayawada secured the 9th position (182 marks), while Visakhapatnam stood at the 26th position with 163 marks. Among the 43 cities with a population of 3 to 10 lakh, Guntur has 10 (185 marks), Rajahmundry 17 (178), Nellore 19 (171.5), Kurnool stood 23rd (163.5), Kadapa 25th (161.7) and Anantapur 33rd (149.3 marks). Among the 40 towns with a population of less than 3 lakh, Ongole stood at 17th (170 marks), Chittoor 21st (153.9), Srikakulam 22nd (153.4) and Vijayanagaram 24th (146.5 marks). These ranks have been released on the basis of data collected from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024.
