Preeti Pal’s first medal in Para Olympics
India won its first medal in athletics at the Paris Paralympics. Preeti Paul (23) won bronze in women’s T-35… 100 meters and opened India’s medal table in Paris. In the event held on August 30, 2024, she clocked 14.21 seconds to finish third. Chinese athletes Zhou Jia (13.58 seconds) and Gua Qianqian (13.74 seconds) won gold and silver respectively.
Preeti Pal from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh was born with weak and crooked legs. He stayed in the hospital for many days. Doctors’ efforts to restore strength in his legs to normal were unsuccessful. Also wore calipers for some years. No use though. At the age of 17, when Pratipal came to know about the Para Olympics, she had a new idea. Meets Para athlete Fatima Khatoon. She practiced running and became a para-athlete. The next year she competed at the state and national level. Emerged as the national best athlete in 100m and 200m. She won bronze medals in both these categories in the World Para Athletics Championships. Now she won bronze in 100m for the first time competing in Paralympics. She is also competing in the 200 m.
India’s third nuclear submarine
It is known that after the second nuclear powered submarine INS Arighat is inducted into the Indian Navy, the 3rd submarine will also be ready in another 6 months. This massive nuclear powered submarine under construction named INS Aridaman is going to join the Navy in another six months. Aridhaman is currently undergoing sea trials. It is larger than the first two submarines. Along with INS Ardhaman, another nuclear submarine is also being built. These two are being made with a length of 125 meters and a weight of 7 thousand tons. The first two of these submarines can carry more K-4 missiles. The four submarines were built as part of the Advanced Technology Vessel (ATV) project, which was launched in secret in 1990. The cost of this project is more than Rs.90,000 crore. They are smaller than American, Russian and Chinese submarines. China’s 6 Jin series submarines are equipped with JL-3 missiles. They can hit targets at a distance of 10,000 km
Iron, calcium and folate deficiency in Indians
According to a study published in the Lancet Global Health Journal, Indians are deficient in some key micronutrients including iron, calcium, and folate. It is said that this trend is seen in all age groups in the country. It is said that these three which are very important for health are lacking. This research was done by a team of international scientists along with researchers from Harvard University in America. Scientists have analyzed nutritional deficiencies in 99.3 percent of the world’s population through the information collected from the ‘Global Dietary Database’. It looked at how well people in 185 countries were getting 15 key micronutrients through food rather than supplements.
* 70 percent of people worldwide do not consume enough iodine, vitamin E and calcium.
* Deficiency of iodine, vitamin B12 and iron is more in women as compared to men. On the other hand, magnesium, vitamin B6, zinc, vitamin C deficiency is high in males.
* In India, women consume less iodine than men. That is why zinc and magnesium deficiency is more common in men.

5.5 generation stealth fighter for Indian Air Force by 2035!
India is preparing new fighter jets. The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) will be developing the stealth fighter which is one of the few countries in the Air Force. DRDO has showcased the 5.5 generation stealth fighter prototype at the Aviation Expo IDOX 2024. In 2035 these will reach the Indian Air Force. If these aircraft are ready, India will be one of the very few countries with stealth fighter technology. DRDO showcased the fighter jet prototype at the Expo held in Suluru, Tamil Nadu. Weighing in at 27 tonnes, these AMCA aircraft are capable of carrying heavy weapons including missiles. DRDO Chairman Sameer V Kamath said that this AMCA, which is under development, will complete trials by 2034.
Sakshi Malik’s Autobiography ‘Witness’
Autobiography of one of India’s top wrestlers, Sakshi Malik, is coming in the form of a book. This book titled ‘Witness’ is going to be launched in October. Jonathan Selvaraj co-authored the book along with Sakshi. In this book, Sakshi’s childhood, how she got into wrestling, winning bronze in the Rio Olympics, the challenges and injuries she faced after that, and finally the fight against Brij Bhushan, the former president of the Indian Wrestling Federation, are going to be in this book. In this book, I have explained all the real things like ups and downs, successes of my life. The witness said that everyone will like it. Sakshi is the only Indian woman wrestler to have won a medal in the Olympics (Rio 2016). She said goodbye to the game in December 2023.
2,500 crore ship to fight pollution
Defense Minister Sanjay Seth on 29th August handed over the special vessel ‘Samudra Pratap’ built by Goa Shipbuilding Center (GSL) at a cost of Rs.2500 crores to be used for pollution control in ocean waters to the Indian Coast Guards. He said that 72% of the work was done domestically under Atmanirbhar. This Samudra Pratap vessel has the latest technology to eliminate pollution and oil spills in sea waters and save aquatic life.
