పాకిస్థాన్ కు  రావి నది జలాలను భారత్ పూర్తిగా నిలిపివేసింది. దాదాపు 40యేళ్ళుగా పెండింగ్ లో ఉన్న షాపుర్ కండీ ఆనకట్ట నిర్మాణం పూర్తవడంతో రావి నీళ్ళు ఆ దేశానికి బంద్ అయ్యాయి. ఇక ముందు రావి జలాలన్నీ మన దేశానికే ఉపయోగపడతాయి. 1960లో ప్రపంచ బ్యాంకు ఆధ్వర్యంలో భారత్, పాక్ మధ్య సింధూ జలాల ఒప్పందం కుది రింది. దాని ప్రకారం సింధూ ఉపనది అయిన రావి జలాలపై పూర్తి హక్కులు మన దేశానికే లభించాయి. దాంతో ఈ నది నుంచి పాకిస్థాన్ కు  వెళ్ళే నీటి ప్రవాహాన్ని ఆపడానికి ఆనకట్టలు నిర్మించాలని భారత్ నిర్ణయించింది. అందుకోసం 1979లో పంజాబ్, జమ్మూకశ్మీర్ ప్రభుత్వాల మధ్య  ఒప్పందం జరిగింది. రావి నదిపై ఎగువవైపు రంజిత్ సాగర్ డ్యామ్, కింది వైపు షాపుర్ కండీ బ్యారేజ్ నిర్మించాలని రెండు రాష్ట్రాలు నిర్ణయించాయి. రంజిత్ సాగర్ డ్యామ్ నిర్మాణం 2001లోనే పూర్తయింది. కానీ షాపుర్ కండీ పనులు అనేక ఆటంకాలతో నిలిచిపోయాయి. దాంతో పాకిస్తాన్ కు రావి జలాల ప్రవాహం యధావిధిగా కొనసాగింది. 2008లో షాపుర్ కండీ బ్యారేజీని కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం జాతీయ ప్రాజెక్టుగా ప్రకటించింది. 2013లో తిరిగి నిర్మాణం ప్రారంభించింది. కానీ పంజాబ్, జమ్మూకశ్మీర్ మధ్య విభేదాలతో మళ్ళీ ఏడాదికే పనులు ఆగిపోయాయి. చివరకు 2018లో కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం రెండు రాష్ట్రాలతో మధ్యవర్తిత్వం జరిపడంతో కండీ బ్యారేజ్ నిర్మాణం మొదలైంది. ప్రస్తుతం ఆనకట్ట నిర్మాణం పూర్తవ్వడంతో ఈ నెల (ఫిబ్రవరి) 25 నుంచి నుంచి పాకిస్తాన్ కు రావి జలాల నీటి ప్రవాహాన్ని నిలిపివేశారు. పంజాబ్ లోని పఠాన్ కోట్ లో 55.5 మీటర్ల ఎత్తయిన షాపుర్ కండీ ఆనకట్ట నిర్మాణం పూర్తయింది. దీంతో 40 యేళ్ళుగా పాకిస్తాన్ కు వెళ్లిన రావి జలాలను ఇప్పుడు జమ్మూకశ్మీర్లోని కథువా, సాంబా జిల్లాలకు మళ్లిస్తారు.

Ravi river waters stopped to Pakistan

India has completely stopped the flow of Ravi River to Pakistan. With the completion of Shapur Kandi Dam, which has been pending for almost 40 years, Ravi water has been cut off for the country. All Ravi waters will be useful for our country. In 1960, the Indus Water Treaty was signed between India and Pakistan under the auspices of the World Bank. According to it, our country got full rights over the waters of Ravi, a tributary of Indus. India decided to build dams to stop the flow of water from this river to Pakistan. In 1979, an agreement was signed between the governments of Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir. Both the states have decided to build Ranjit Sagar Dam on the upper side and Shapur Kandi Barrage on the lower side of the Ravi River. The construction of Ranjit Sagar Dam was completed in 2001 itself. But Shapur Kandi’s work came to a standstill due to many obstacles. With that, the flow of Ravi water to Pakistan continued as usual. In 2008, the Shapur Kandy Barrage was declared a national project by the central government. Construction resumed in 2013. But due to differences between Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir, the work was stopped within a year. Finally, in 2018, the construction of the Kandy barrage started after the central government mediated with the two states. Currently, the water flow of Ravi waters to Pakistan has been stopped from 25th of this month (February) due to the completion of the construction of the dam. The construction of the 55.5 meter high Shapur Kandi Dam at Pathan Kot in Punjab has been completed. As a result, the water of Ravi, which has gone to Pakistan for 40 years, will now be diverted to Kathua and Samba districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
