The Telangana movement intensified as the Sri Krishna Committee report was unclear and not as expected by the people of Telangana. Different sections of the Telangana society… protested in different ways. These protests have made the leaders of various political parties in the country think. The then UPA government at the center felt that the formation of Telangana was inevitable.

Non-Cooperation Movement

  • Telangana political JAC (Telangana Political Joint Action Committee) Telangana employees and activists started non-cooperation movement on February 17, 2011 and continued for 16 days till March All government activities have come to a standstill in the Telangana region. Employees signed in attendance register in government offices. But protested by wearing black badges instead of performing duties.
  • As this movement was organized at the time of the budget meetings of the Parliament at the center and during the budget meetings of the state assembly, it attracted the attention of all the people of the state.
  • Although the non-cooperation movement was launched on 17th February .. its schedule was announced by JAC on 12th February itself.

  • Nearly 3 lakh employees voluntarily participated in the boycott movement. As part of this, the employees continued to protest through programs like pen down, workers tool down, teachers chalk down, computer operators mouse down. With that, the administration in Telangana came to a standstill..

Due to this movement, taxes, electricity dues and registration duties due to the state government, together with the revenue of Rs.12,800 crores, have been stopped in these 16 days. Picketings, Rastarokolu, ‘Walk for Telangana’ in towns and ‘Prabhata Bheri’ programs were held in front of central government offices.

Trains running from Telangana were diverted to other routes as a result of the ‘Palle Palle Pattala Piyika’ program organized on March 1 and rail stop and rail bandh. With that, the Telangana movement took off across the country. JAC of railway employees from Telangana region also participated in this movement in South Central Railway. During this movement, TRS (BRS) members protested in the State Assembly and Lok Sabha meetings, raising arguments for a separate state.

A complete Telangana bandh was held for 48 hours on February 22 and 28, 2011. Coal supply to power stations and cement industries stopped after Singareni workers went on strike. On February 23, 2011, the Lok Sabha resounded with the slogans of Telangana Congress, BJP, TDP and TRS members… Jai Telangana. The non-cooperation movement in Telangana continued from February 17 to March 4, 2011

 General strike (Sakala Janula Samme)

Another movement undertaken for the achievement of Telangana state… All people’s strike. It lasted for 42 days from September 13 to October 24, 2011. This is another innovative program undertaken by the activists demanding to speed up the process of Telangana statehood. All communities of Telangana participated in it. All people’s strike was held non-stop for 42 days. A public meeting called ‘Janagarjana’ was held in Karimnagar on September 12, 2011, a day before the start of the Sakal Janula samme. Leaders of Telangana JAS, BJP and New Democracy attended this meeting along with KCR and decided to go on strike from September 13. Thus began the strike.

As part of the strike, Telangana was rocked with riots, train stoppages, massacres and rallies. Government offices are closed. Students took to the roads. Employees and lawyers boycotted their duties. Singareni was completely stunned. All government offices in Telangana districts except Hyderabad are closed. RTC, Electricity Department, Singareni mine workers, students, lawyers, doctors, farmers, leaders of political parties, almost the entire civil society voluntarily participated in this strike.

Cooking was done on the roads. Farmers held tractor rallies, women held bathukamma and bona rallies, Gita workers held knee rallies, potters held rallies with pots, and auto drivers held auto rallies. The state government could not stop the strike of the people of Sekala. The Telangana movement reached its peak with this strike. In 2011, it lasted from September 13 to October 24, i.e. for 42 days.

Million March (2011, March 10)

The objective of the Million March program is to open the Telangana region to the dominance of non-Telangana rulers for the past 55 years. In Chapter 8 of the Srikrishna Committee Report, it advised the central government how to suppress the Telangana movement. In protest, KCR called for Hyderabad blockade on March 10, 2011. But KCR announced this decision unilaterally without consulting Telangana Political JAC and Osmania University JAC. However… TPJAC, OU student JAC, other JACs supported KCR’s statement. Instead of the ‘Hyderabad Blockade’ suggested by KCR, they decided to organize a program called ‘Million March’ and the movement went from the politicians to the hands of the people.

Inspiration for the Million March program

The Million March was inspired by the 18 days of 2011, from January 25 to February 11, 500,000 people marched in Tehirir Square in Cairo to protest against the dictatorial rule of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and police brutality. The Million March held on the Tank Bund in Hyderabad was held only for one day. The purpose of this event was to make the people swear that they will work for the achievement of Telangana. The state government and courts have not given permission for this. But it was successful.

The ‘Million’ March’ was planned to be held on the morning of 10 March 2011. But as there were intermediate exams on that day, it was changed from 1 to 4 pm on the request of the parents. Students and activists coming to Hyderabad from all districts to participate in the Million March were stopped and sent back by the police. No matter how many restrictions were imposed… about 50 thousand activists reached the top of the tank embankment. Statues of some Andhra leaders installed on the tank bund were destroyed.

In 1986, the then state CM N. T. Rama Rao installed statues of 33 Telugu saints on the tank bund. Only seven of them are Telangana celebrities. The rest are from Andhra celebrities. The activists considered this to be discrimination and destroyed some of them.

After the destruction of statues on Tank Bund. Associations like Osmania University JAC, Telangana Political JS, Telangana Jagruti etc. have demanded that these idols should be kept on the Tank Bund till Telam State is formed. All the JACs of Telangana organized ‘Swabiman Yatra Rally’ together. Angered by the destruction of the idols, the state government constituted a five-member committee to restore them. On 5th October 2012, Komuram Bheem idol of Telangana was installed along with 16 broken idols on the instructions of this committee.

Sagara Haram 2012 September 30:

Sagara Hara is also known as Telangana March. Sagara Hara was held at Hussain Sagar Necklace Road in Hyderabad. The government has imposed prohibitory orders in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Osmania University has restricted the students from coming out of the campus. Breaking all restrictions, a large number of activists reached Necklace Road by 2 pm. The protest continued even after the permit expired at 7 p.m. The activists raised Jai Telangana slogans till midnight saying that they will not move from here until the announcement of Telangana state formation. But due to heavy rain, they went somewhere.

Samardiksha (January 25, 2013):

Political JAC has decided to hold Samara Diksha at Indira Park for 16 hours from January 25, 2013 for the achievement of Telangana State. The police did not agree to that before. After that on 27th and 28th of January after giving permission, initiation was conducted.

Chalo Assembly (June 13, 2013):

On June 13, 2013, a ‘Chalo Assembly’ program was held with the call of the Political JAC to speed up the process of introducing the bill in the Parliament regarding the formation of Telangana state. The movement reached its climax when all the people of Telangana took part.
