Azim Premji Foundation Launches ₹2,250 Crore Scholarship Drive to Support Higher Education for Girls in India
Empowering Girls Through Education: A Game-Changing Initiative
Despite various schemes from the Central and State Governments to promote girls’ education in India, millions of girls still drop out before reaching higher education. To address this issue, the Azim Premji Foundation has launched a massive scholarship program aimed at promoting higher education for girls, especially from underprivileged backgrounds.
Over the next three years, the foundation will invest a total of ₹2,250 crores, allocating ₹750 crores per year to provide scholarships to 2.5 lakh girls pursuing degree or diploma courses.

Why This ?
According to the Economic Survey 2024-25, India has over 15 lakh schools catering to around 25 crore students, half of whom attend government schools. While 93% enrollment is seen at the primary level, only 77.4% continue till Class 6, and just 56.2% complete Class 12. Shockingly, only one-third of those make it to college, with even fewer being girls—largely due to financial constraints.
This scholarship program by the Azim Premji Foundation is a Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme designed to reduce this gap and support deserving female students.
