Good News for Degree Students – New Courses Now Available!

Until now, advanced technical courses like Quantum Computing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning were available only to B.Tech students. But now, the Telangana government has decided to introduce these courses in regular degree programs as well. The Higher Education Council is currently working on designing the syllabus for these new courses.

Double Major System

Instead of the current Single Major system, a new Double Major system is being introduced. This means that students can now choose two major subjects in their degree. The first major will carry 48 credits, and the second major will have 32 credits. This way, students can gain expertise in two subjects. For pursuing post-graduation, students can choose either of these majors.

Quantum Computing, AI as Minor Subjects

Along with the double majors, minor subjects like Quantum Computing, AI, and Machine Learning will be introduced. For B.Sc. (Computers) students, Quantum Computing will be mandatory. Other students will be allowed to choose these as minor subjects based on their interest. Even BA and B.Com students can opt for these courses if they are interested.

Special Courses for Skill Development

To improve student skills, new courses like Design Thinking and Problem Solving are also being introduced. These are considered highly important in the current job market and industries.

Changes in Internship Structure

So far, internships were conducted in three phases. Now, a new plan has been prepared to combine all three phases into a single internship. Previously, students had to do:

  1. A community service project after the first year,
  2. A subject-related internship after the second year,
  3. A semester internship in the third year.
Now, these will be merged into one effective internship module.

What’s Next?

The Higher Education Council, under the leadership of Prof. Venkaiah, has submitted a detailed report on the new curriculum and structure. Council Chairman Krishnamurthy has conducted a virtual meeting with Vice Chancellors of all universities and gathered their suggestions. Once the curriculum is finalized, it will be submitted to the government for approval. After that, universities will adopt it through their academic departments and begin implementation.
